Lorraine completed her nurse training in Manchester and went on to hold posts in general medicine, community and hospice care. She became a Macmillan Palliative Care Nurse at East Cheshire NHS Trust in 1990 and developed the Macmillan Lung Cancer Nursing Service in 1999. In 2007 she was appointed as the Macmillan Lung Cancer Lead Clinician and she also held the post of Non Medical Prescribing Lead. Lorraine has a Masters in Medical Ethics of Cancer and Palliative Care and MSc level qualifications in clinical examination and diagnostics. She was the first nurse non medical prescriber at the Trust. She has also undertaken the National Cancer Leadership Programme.
Lorraine was the first nurse member of the British Thoracic Society Lung Cancer Working Party and has been a committee member of the National Lung Cancer Forum for Nurses. She also worked with the Department of Health on the Lung Cancer Awareness, Action and Advisory Group. She was delighted to receive the first Lifetime Achievemant Award from the NLCFN and she is a Macmillan Alumni Ambassador.
Lorraine is currently one of three Mesothelioma UK CNS Team Leaders covering the North of England, Wales and Scotland.
Lorraine is passionate about nursing leadership and she is the current chair of trustees of the NLCFN
